Chalino Sánchez didn't ask permission to become a legend. At fifteen, he avenged his sister when the law wouldn't. Exiled to LA, broke and unknown, he turned street truth into corridos nobody else had the nerve to write — rough voice, real stories, no polish. In January 1992, a man rushed the stage at a Coachella nightclub and shot him twice — Chalino fired back and survived. Months later in Culiacán, he took the stage one last time and never came home. By then the genre was already his.

This piece is that stare — a man who decided your judgment of him mattered less than his own.
